Emission free deliveries - small changes make a big difference!
Emission free deliveries - small changes make a big difference!
Green Shoots was started in Autumn 2020 by Karen and Peter Squires.
Lockdown saw many people decluttering attics and garages, then selling their ‘preloved’ items on eBay/Facebook Marketplace which significantly increased the number of delivery vans on the roads.
Discovering the only emission free delivery options were around the cities, but none serving the rural areas of Leicestershire, our first electric van was leased, and Green Shoots was born.
Initially working with smaller local businesses who focused on sustainability and organically grown produce, our customer base started to get bigger and more diverse.
Thanks to support from the Harborough District Council and their ‘Go Green’ grant, we secured a second electric van which opened the door to much bigger organisations.
As our vans are fully electric, every journey we take on behalf of our clients is completely emission free.
Using the diesel equivalent of our vans as a direct comparison, we can calculate the emission savings based on the number of miles travelled, allowing our clients to evidence the reduction they are making to their company’s carbon footprint.
Using our long wheel base Maxus eDeliver 9 as an example, for every 100 miles driven, our clients save just under 45kgs of CO2 emissions.
And it soon adds up; as featured in our Case Studies section, digital printer IntoPrint switched to using Green Shoots to deliver to their customers within a 20-mile radius and within nine months have already saved over 2 tonnes of emissions!
SMALL CHANGES REALLY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
As well as sustainability, our core value is based on providing excellent customer service.
Simple, but effective!
We currently have two vans: the mid-sized Nissan eNV200 and the long wheel base Maxus eDeliver 9. Both are well-maintained, regularly cleaned and stylishly liveried.
The lead message – be it from the front, side or rear – is ‘Emission free deliveries’. This means that when we are delivering on behalf of our clients, their customers can see how important sustainability is to them.
We have even designed the van so a metallic sign can be placed over the ‘Green Shoots’ on the driver and passenger’s doors, allowing our clients to use their own company name or logo to further enhance their brand image.
Whilst the driving range varies on the season (due to the batteries not liking the cold), we can typically get around 150 miles from the Maxus and 130 miles from the Nissan on a full charge. HOWEVER, as they both have rapid charge capabilities, they can add a further 80-100 miles in around 30 minutes using public charging units.
